  3. Abstract
  4. AntiVirus 1.0E is the english version of AntiVirus, an nVIR-removing utility. It will completely remove any nVIR infection, provided you keep to the method described further down. Apart from removing the virus from the file system, Antivirus will make your operating system immune against new nVIR infections.

  17. How to get rid of your NVIR
  18. To get rid of your nVIR infection please follow the following instructions closely:
  19. 1. Copy the program onto a floppy with a non-infected system. Lock the floppy.
  20. 2. Now that you're back from your local dealer with that non-infected system boot your Mac with it.
  21. 3. Start AntiVirus. The remove virus dialog will show up. Select 'Clean all volumes' from the AntiVirus menu. The program will then remove any nVIR virus it detects except for the system infection.
  22. 4. Copy the system and AntiVirus onto your normal startup volume.
  23. 5. Run AntiVirus. Select 'Immunize system' from the AntiVirus menu. This will install a permanent  protection for your system, that even infected applications wont touch. Don't run this on an infected system (it will crash !!!).
  24. 6. Trash any infected system you may have around and replace it by the one you just protected.
  25. 7. To clean backup floppies or single volumes select 'Clean one volume' from the AntiVirus menu. From the file dialog then select any application on that volume to start the removing process.

  27. Known bugs
  28. The program doesn't work properly on applications that can't be fully infected by the virus. Known applications : QUED.

  30. What else can you do ?
  31. Against viruses in general simply protect your application's CODE 0 resource. At the moment there is no Mac virus writing to protected resources. Run one of the popular shareware virus detection programs like Interferon, Vaccine or VirusDetective from time to time.
